Gate Opener Description
Estate Swing gate openers are designed to be easy to install for the average handyman. Every unit comes standard with everything needed to automate your gate, including mounting brackets (hardware to affix brackets to the gate and column are not included).
The Classic series of Estate Swing have a few features that are made for DIY installers. First it is has no learning procedure like all other openers. Because of its smart usage it runs from one limit to the other without having to learn the procedure to the processor. Some times simpler is better! The magnetic limit switches are adjustable on the bottom of the arm; simply slide them to where you need them. Third, it has fully adjustable brackets that can be made to fit any situations including push to open. Installers have alternate parts for gate openers on hand; homeowners do not; that is why these brackets are designed to fit all needs.
Also included is Estate Swings unique user directed instruction manual. Estate Swing, being closely involved with their customers, they have created the first user driven updateable manual for continuous improvement of installation ease, maintenance and trouble shooting updates. We also brings DIY projects to a new level of simplicity with our 7-day/week technical support and 24/7/365 scheduled installation support. All Estate Swings are built to the highest standards world wide. Each unit is put through rigorous quality control testing on each component. The Estate Swing E-S500 meets and exceeds UL325 standards for anti-crushing safety.
The Estate Swing E-S500 Single Opener is a low voltage system, eliminating the need to run 110 AC to your gate. Simply run low voltage wire to a household outlet within 200' of the operator. This is a Constant Duty DIY gate opener. What does this mean to you? These gate openers will run again and again without running a battery down. All other DIY gate openers run off of a battery and are trickle charged after a cycle is run to recharge that battery. If cycles are run off the battery faster then the power can charge it, then your gate opener runs the risk of being temporarily stuck closed. With the E-S500 Classic the power for the cycles comes directly from the 24V transformer plugged into a standard outlet; the batteries (not included and optional) are strictly backup for power outages. Thus add another level of reliability and peace of mind.
The Estate Swing E-S500 Single Opener has features never before seen or new to economically priced openers.
Gate Opener Features
- NO Learning Procedure -
This is one of the most desirable features of this intelligent control board. Once everything is wired in you can just run your gate opener. All other openers have to go through a learning procedure to know how long to run for and other details. No hassles here.
- Time Tested Design -
The Classic series of the Estate Swing is the identical design of the first electro-mechanical gate opener. This design has been used for over 30 years and is still in use on thousands of homes and businesses around the globe. This is the design that started it all and made people confident that electro-mechanical could be more reliable, efficient and cost effective than hydraulic gate openers.
- Easy Access Adjustable Magnetic Limit Switches -
There are many pluses to the limit switches on this unit. They are easy to adjust and access. They are on the bottom of the exterior of the arm, simply slide them to the location needed and tighten down a screw. Secondly, both the open and closed point is adjustable; this gives you more flexibility of stopping points after the brackets are bolted into place. Lastly they are magnetic so there are no components to wear out or break from contact.
- Adjustable Run Time/Soft Stop -
One of the parameters you can designate for this opener is a run time. The advantage of this is, again, it is not a learned procedure, but something you input manually as an adjustment for your soft stop. The purpose is to give an option for where you want soft stop to begin. If you make the run time the same as the actual run time from limit to limit it will slow down half way; as you extend the run time past that time the soft stop will become shorter and give you a faster opening time. The board makes it easy to set, it has a counter on it telling you how many seconds it takes to go from open to close - then you simply put that number or a number of your choosing to delay the slow down.- Large 24V Motor - The motor of the E-S500 is one of the largest found on any residential gate opener. It is well equipped to handle gates up to 600 lbs, more weight than found in many heavily ornamented gates.
- Easily Adjustable Brackets - The brackets are set up to be user customized to fit any need configuration; push to open, pull to open, mounting on back of post, mounting on side of post, etc..
- Large Opening Arch Capabilities - The E-S500 has the ability to open gates up to 110 degrees, well beyond most other openers.
- Advanced Gear System - The gear system is one of the most important parts of a gate opener; it influences power, control, reliability, and the life span of the motor. The E-S500 uses an advanced worm gear system cutting down on bearing wear and motor deterioration.
- All Weather Compatible -
This arm can handle the cold, heat and everything in between.
- Highest Level of Safety -
The Estate Swing E-S500 automatically reverses directions when it comes in contact with an obstruction. The Estate Swing E-S500 also has the safest method of controlling safety devices. All safety devices are set up on a Normally Closed circuit. Some gate openers are set up on a normally open circuit. What this means is that the Estate Swing E-S500 is virtually fail-safe. If a safety device does not activate for any reason the Estate Swing E-S500 will not operate, keeping your loved ones and assets safe. Gate openers with safety devices set up on a Normally Open connection will operate with the disabled safety device and the consumer will not know the safety device is inactive until it is too late!
- Quick, Safe and Secure Manual Release -
Every unit comes with a key chain ready manual release key. In the rare case power has failed and the back up battery is not charged, the manual release key can be used to safely open your gate without damaging your opener arm or disconnecting anything from your gate.
- Adjustable Performance Features -
Adjust the performance of your gate opener to fit your tastes, lifestyle and needs. You can adjust Pause Times, Opening/Closing Delays, Static Force, etc.
- 24 Volt Output Terminals -
Convenient for accessories requiring power. i.e. locks, sensors, etc.
- Quick Plug Radio Receiver - The easiest receiver to use on the market. There are no wires to run, simply set your dip switch combination and plug it into the board. It is compatible with multiple wireless keypads and intercoms.

Words from our senior application specialist Anthony Gaeto
"The Estate Swing Classic series is one of the best things I have seen come to the gate opener market in a while. It combines an advanced yet simplified electronics board with tried and true mechanical technology. In an era of adding bells and whistles to everything sometimes it is better to have something that just plain works and in a way that even the untrained installer can understand. A real plus for the Do-It-Yourself market.
The Classic series gate openers are linear actuators reflecting 30 years of gate opener in-use reliability. The design of the Estate Swing Classic opener arm is the design that launched electro-mechanical gate openers. In the early days of gate opener automation, the thought was if you were going to do a piston style gate opener you had to use hydraulics; however low voltage motors and gear driven system are far more efficient and maintenance free. This is the design that made the transformation and the design was so solid it has lasted for 30 years and is still being used today.
The magnetic limit switches make a big difference in the longevity of this design. Magnetic limit switches have no parts that make contact; eliminating the possibility of a part wearing down over time. The adjustment can be done on both the open and closed side. Many gate openers simply are adjustable on one side or the other but if you want to make adjustments on the permanent side you would have to re mount the brackets. The adjustment is also the easiest I have seen. Most require turning some type of screw and guessing on the hidden limits position and degree of movement. These you simply slide them along the bottom of the arm and tighten a screw when you are set. You will be able to see how much you are moving the limit in adjustment.
The intelligent control board is the best DIY aspect of this opener. The high tech part of it is all in the back end of how it regulates power, senses obstructions, etc. The user end is simplicity at its best. There is no learning process so this means you can just hook up all the wires, press your remote and it will begin running. Some adjustments to the limit placement and some of the parameters will probably need adjustment, but at least it will be a running gate opener with no confusing programming steps to begin.
Safety is always a top concern with Estate Swing. They have designed their system to be the safest in the world. We always recommend having external safety devices such as photo sensors installed on your opener to prevent damage or injury. The Estate Swing Classic series, first, has an auto-stop feature built in. Even if you do not decide to install any external safety devices, the Estate Swing ES-500 will automatically stop if it comes in contact with an obstruction. The top safety feature is how safety devices are wired on the Estate Swing Classic. Other gate openers have a flawed system; they are hooked up on a normally open circuit, which means if your safety device is not functioning properly it will not stop the movement of your gate. This can lead to disastrous results. The Estate Swing Classic works on normally closed connections for safety devices. In most cases, if the safety device is not functioning properly, the normally closed connection will be open, the same as when there is a breach of the safety device, and the gate will not move.

Components
| On the bottom of the shaft you see two screws; this is the location of the open limit switch. There is another on the end of the arm. Simply loosen the two screws, slide the limit where needed and you are done with your adjustments. |
 |
| The manual release may seem like a simple concept but it is surprisingly not included in many other gate openers. If you ever need to open the gate manually for any reason with the Estate Swing Classic series, simply take you r release key and turn it in the shown hole. |
 |
| One overlooked feature on many gate openers is how the wire attaches to the motor. On the Estate Swing Classic series the wire is pre- attached and sealed for a weather tight connection. It also has a flex joint: as the operator pivots the wire bends repeatedly at the same point. With many other gate openers this becomes brittle, cracks and disrupts power. The Estate Swing Classic series will pivot time and time again without trouble. |
 |
| With a constant duty oversized 24V DC motor the Estate Swing Classic can easily handle almost any style of residential driveway gate: from ornamental, to wood, to wrought iron, the Classic can handle them all. |
 |
| The metal housing of the Estate Swing Classic can handle any outdoor situation. Snow, ice, sand and salt water breezes: the Classic design will not rust or corrode. |
 |
| The quick plug receiver is the easiest install in the industry. Where you see the white square; that just slides onto 5 prongs on the control board. Then match your remote dip switches with the receiver dip switches and you are ready to operate your gate opener remotely. |
 |
| The control box is designed to be ready for use. The control board is pre-mounted in the control box and rubber wire junction covers are pre- installed in the bottom of the box. Simply poke a hole in the rubber gasket the size needed and run your wire through. |

Definitions
Weight and Length: This is the max length and max weight for a gate that the manufacturer recommends the gate opener to be used on. One thing you will see is either an "and" or an "or" when describing the capacities. If it has an "and" both the max weight and max length can be used at the same time. If there is an "or" then as you move towards either maximum the other capacity decreases. Manufacturers that us an "or" rating do this to not limit gate openers from move heavier gates that are short because the gate opener will have leverage to do so.
Pull to open: This means that the gate or gates swing in towards the same side the gate opener will be on. This is the most common application. It is called so because with most gate openers they have their screw drives extended to the end of the arm in the closed position and then as they retract they "pull" your gate open.
Rear face of a column: Most gates are mounted on the inside face of the column, the side facing the driveway, and then you mount your gate opener on the rear face of the column, the side facing the inside of the property. The important distance in terms of mounting your gate opener is the distance from the hinge of the gate to the back face of the column.
Push to open: This means that the gate or gates swing out away from the side the gate openers are mounted on. This application is used primarily on properties that have an incline on the inside of the property, have limited room inside the property for swinging, or that have pre-existing gates mounted on large columns. It is called so because with most gate openers in this application they have their screw drives retracted to in the closed position and then as they extend they "push" your gate open toward the street.
Solar compatible: 12V DC systems that run off of a battery can generally be used with solar power instead of plugging in a transformer. The gate openers that operate this way run entirely off of a battery; the power source, i.e. solar panel, is there to trickle charge that battery.
Low Voltage Transformer: A transformer gets plugged into an outlet. The purpose of it is to reduce the intensity of an electrical current to a lower voltage. Typically to a voltage that is safe to handle.
DIY: An abbreviation for Do-It-Yourself. We specialize in people that are doing it themselves and has many resources to help a homeowner including videos, 9 - 9 live support, and product additions for easier installation.
UL325: The UL-325 standard that addresses the automatic operation of garage doors, Drapery, Gate, Louver and Window Operators and Systems also contains provisions related to the automatic operation of access control gates. The primary intent of the standards is to prevent entrapment of persons in automated gate systems, as well as preventing injuries from pinch points. UL 325 is not concerned about the gate contacting vehicles, only the entrapment of people.
Learning Procedure: Most gate openers have a procedure in which before operating thee gate opener through a normal cycle one must guide it through a sequence of steps for the control board to sync with the movements, run times and variances of the gate.
Processor: The processor is the brains of the gate opener, much like a mother board in a computer. It handles the regulation of power, the tripping of relays, run times, etc.
Magnetic Limit Switches: A limit switch is a trigger that is reached in order to for the gate opener to know it is at the end of its travel and the motor should shut off. A magnetic limit switch is a trigger that is run with a magnet and sensor, when the magnet meets the sensor the control board is triggered to stop the motor.
Normally closed: A circuit that is used for activation can initiated two ways: by releasing the circuit or connecting the circuit. Normally closed means that the circuit is connected all the time and then when the circuit is released the control board goes into action (or inaction).
Low Voltage System: This is the safest type of system for a home owner to install and easiest. Low voltage systems run off of 12 or 24 volts, which will produce no shock if touched. It also does not require an Electrician for running power.
Pause Times: gate openers can be either used like garage door openers where they stay open until you close them or they can be used with internal reclose timers. After the gate reaches its open position the control board counts down and automatically recloses.
Receiver: This is the device that receives the radio signal from your remotes and makes the gate opener activate. Some manufacturers provide this and some do not and make you buy it separately. Our gate opener will always come with a receiver and remote.
Homelink: This is the leading brand for the universal remote system that is built into cars. Other brands can most likely work with our systems as well.
AFA: American Fence Association. Started in 1962, all major companies involved in the fencing and automation industry are members of this organization. It was developed to share information on advancements and set standards in the industry.
